La Fleur de Haut Bages Libéral, Pauillac 2019

Ref: 00234/FR

About the producer

Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a Cinquième Cru Classé (Fifth Growth) in the official Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The vineyards are located on gravel over a limestone base, with some parcels near the esteemed Château Latour. This terroir contributes to the wine’s freshness and minerality.

Wine growing / wine making

Gravel and limestone soils around the property, and deep gravel in the hamlet of Bages. Plot by plot vinification. Maceration with the addition of natural gas to stimulate gentle movement. Pumping-over of one volume per day. 24 days maceration and vertical pressing. 12 months of ageing 60% in oak barrels and 40% in ovoid tanks. Certified organic in 2019 and Demeter certified in 2021. “La Fleur de Haut-Bages Libéral” is the second wine, which is produced using fruit from younger vines, and typically shares the estate’s style but is intended for earlier drinking.

Tasting notes

Notes of red and black fruits, floral notes of rose petals and violets, and touches of sweet spice and liquorice. Full-bodied with elegant, lifted fruit and well-integrated, supple tannins. It features a lovely freshness and a long, persistent finish.

Food pairing

Ribeye steak, beef wellington, lamb with a garlic & herb crust, mushroom risotto, vegetable gratin, truffle, Comté, aged cheddar.
