Château Palais Cardinal, Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2018

Ref: 00163/FR

About the producer

Château Palais Cardinal is located south of Saint-Emilion and extends over 26 hectares. The Château dates back to the 1800’s but in recent years has seen great renovation. In 2008 Monsieur and Madame Texier acquired the property and over a ten year period realised their vision to renovate, expand and build on the high quality of wines being produced. Then in 2018 Monsieur Louis Ballande purchased the property, bringing with him a wealth of vineyard experience.

Wine growing / wine making

Manual harvesting and temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. 90% aged for 18 months in new French oak and 10% aged in cement tanks. Consultant winemaker Thomas Duclos. Average vine age of 40 years. Vineyard area is 26 hectares.

Tasting notes

“The Palais Cardinal 2018 has a beautiful purity with a redcurrant nose, cranberry and pomegranate. The Oak here is well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, notes of fresh strawberry and raspberry leading to a sappy finish that which seems long enough. GOOD.” Neal Martin.
“The 2018 Palais Cardinal has a garnet purple color deep, with notes of tar, wet earth and charcoal on a pit of black cherry compote and wild blueberries plus a touch wild thyme. Medium to full bodied with a firm and soft texture, it has lots of freshness and a consistent finish.” Lisa Perotti-Brown

Duck and game terrine, rib of beef, roast lamb with rosemary, roast duck, confit duck, lamb tagine, Comté cheese.
