Château du Cauze, Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2019

Ref: 00268/FR

About the producer

The estate was built on a fortress castle destroyed during the 100 Years War. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate located in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes has been owned by the Laporte family since 1986.

Wine growing / wine making

The estate is situated to the east of the Saint Emilion plateau on clay-limestone soils. Both manual and mechanical harvesting. A traditional vinification of cold maceration followed by fermentation for around 3 weeks in thermoregulated vats. Ageing 70% in barrels for 12 months of which 33% are new.

Tasting notes

“This estate set east of the town of Saint-Émilion has produced a well-structured wine. Dusty tannins float easily in juicy black-plum flavours, giving a beautifully balanced wine with plenty of further potential. The wine has weight and concentration. It will be ready from 2026.” Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast 93/100.

Food pairing

Roast rib of beef, duck, oxtail, beef cheeks, wild boar sauté, tagliatelle with girolles, mushrooms on toast, herb-crusted leg of lamb.
